The Victoriana project initially started out as a design competition for Heresy Gaming. These entries were the winners and are to be used on the second edition of the game. We were also asked to do an initial layout design based around a 6 in x 9 in page size.

The cover designs both needed to be researched to get a feel for the books printed around the Victorian era. We were looking for something with a traditional look, but with a slightly more modern edge. The cover design came about with the idea of a leather bound journal with the logo printed on in a manner so it looked embossed. The Supplemental book covers are designed to reflect many of the mass produced novels of the time; that have the plain square of paper with the title and author text on and a simple repeating pattern background. Both covers have a variable spine width which can be altered to suit the need of the internal pages. Both of the top images are preserved in a large format so you can see the detail in the cover design.

The internal layout document was an initial concept which will change in the near future to suit a larger page size. Heresy wanted a simple page layout that was easy to read, but kept element of a Victorian style, with some Steam Punk elements. However as the project develops we expect this layout to change radically. The last the icons on the right, are the final covers for the core rule book and supplement, and a preview showing close to the final layout. The main changes on the cover other than textual were the logo, on the supplement the images were changed and it was decided that the background pattern would be different colour for each type of supplement. The Last Icon is the preview that you can download. Though this isn’t the final layout it’s close to it so this will give you a feel for how the core rule book will look.
